![]() ![]() I hope somebody else who knows about this stuff can post and help me out here, I don't have any magic answers, but I will try to suggest anything that comes to mind as the story unfolds. ![]() Could that be causing difficulty? Give us a list of what's in your login items. Perhaps one of those has a memory leak.ĮyeConnect is no longer supported by Elgato, and it was only certified to work in Mountain Lion. One definite area to check: apps in your login items list (users & groups - login items) My computer doesn't do that! I have 8 GB memory but I was previously running a MacBook Pro (ML) with 4 GB and it never looked like anything like that. If you take compressed memory as being roughly 50% of real file size, that means you've got over 8 GB of data in use plus there's all the system wired memory and application memory on top of that. In your picture not only have you got a large amount of compressed memory you've also got a huge swap file. I can't think of any obvious reason why that's happening to you. I'll make a note of my actions next time it slows down and come back here to let you guys know. The 'reopen windows' option is always unchecked, by the way. (Like me on Monday mornings) Takes an age to get going again, and then it doesn't feel like full speed. It's very sluggish when it wakes from sleep. It gets restarted once every couple of days and I occasionally turn it off overnight. Safari - when I browse I have a max of six or so tabs open at once, so no biggie there - I think. I carefully delved into the Library to delete them and it does seem to have speeded things up. Re: deleted a load of applications and helper apps - by this I mean things like LogMeIn and its agent, which I spotted in Activity Monitor. The latter can slow things down and can be corrected with a reboot. I also occasionally stream audio from iTunes to an internet radio using EyeConnect and content from iTunes to our Apple TV. Do you have "Reopen windows when logging back in" checked?Īny other relevant info you can think of?Īh, yes, I was a little scant on detail wasn't I! That's where the problem is - but what on earth could be in that compressed memory?ĭoes this always happen? Can you relate it to actions you've taken? BTW, just logging out and back in again would free everything up and is quicker than a full reboot. That leaves compressed memory which is taking a prodigious 2.7 GB. You have 4 GB in use, all of it, you're showing all processes so nothing is hidden, all apps together are taking under half a gig, wired memory just over half a gig, and file caches 0.2 gig. To be honest I can't quite see what is using all that memory. Safari can be responsible for a lot of memory use, how many tabs/pages do you have open? How many applications are showing running in the dock? ![]() Your picture shows kernel task taking a lump of memory, but fairly normal I suppose, Skype is top of the apps list but not taking an excessive amount. What do you mean you "deleted a load of applications and helper apps"? Or do you mean you quit the applications? It's only when they're running that they take up memory - not when they're in the applications folder. How long since you had restarted it, what applications have you been using most. Mac model identifier (see system information), plus year, CPU etc. ![]()
